“Otherwise I Wouldn’t Go Back”: Sophie Turner Lays Down A Condition For Reprising Her ‘Game Of Thrones’ Role As Sansa Stark

Sophie Turner, the face behind one of ‘Game of Thrones‘ most iconic characters, Sansa Stark, became a household name during her time on the series. From her humble beginnings as a naïve young girl to ruling as Queen in the North by the end of season eight, Sansa’s character arc was nothing short of extraordinary.

With the controversial ending of ‘Game of Thrones‘ still fresh in many minds, the idea of a season 9 sounds both thrilling and terrifying. But Sophie’s latest comments have reignited the buzz. Would she return as Sansa Stark? The short answer is maybe, but it’s complicated.

Sophie Turner’s Terms: What Would Bring Her Back To Westeros?

In a recent interview with Variety, Sophie Turner discussed the potential of stepping back into the fur-lined robes of the Queen in the North, but there’s a caveat that might crush fans’ hopes.

In the interview, Sophie admitted that she still thinks about Sansa and wonders what her life would be like post-‘Game of Thrones‘. Who wouldn’t be curious about the fate of a character who went from pawn to power player?

But Sophie was very clear about what it would take to get her back into the world of Westeros. She said, “Maybe. I mean, it would have to be the exact same cast and the exact same crew, otherwise I wouldn’t go back, and that would just be Season 9, and I don’t think we’re going to do a Season 9.”

Sophie is open to reprising the role, but only if the original gang is back together. This condition essentially means we’re talking about a full-fledged reunion of the cast and crew. But if ‘Criminal Minds‘ and ‘Bosch‘ can have a revival, why not ‘Game of Thrones‘?

Sure, bringing the whole cast back sounds amazing, but let’s talk about reality for a second. After all, since the series ended, stars like Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), and Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) have gone on to land major roles in some of the biggest franchises in Hollywood.

Kit has joined the MCU with a role in ‘Eternals‘, while Peter Dinklage is killing it in blockbusters like ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ and ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes‘. Meanwhile, Gwendoline is out there dominating Netflix in shows like ‘The Sandman‘ and ‘Wednesday‘. And let’s not forget Sophie herself, who’s been busy with ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix‘, ‘The Staircase’, and more.

But even with all these hurdles, Sophie’s condition isn’t entirely out of the question. In today’s era of reboots and revivals, shocking things have happened. Plus, if the fandom’s enduring love for the show is any indication, there’s always a chance that HBO might just give in to the idea of a season 9.

Would A Possible Season 9 Help Fans Finally Get Closure?

Season 8 of ‘Game of Thrones‘ left fans, well, divided. The pacing, the abrupt character arcs, and that ending… yeah, we’re still not over it. If HBO ever decided to bring back the original cast for a proper continuation, it might be the perfect way to give the story the closure it deserves.

Just imagine: Ten years later, we catch up with Queen Sansa, King Bran, Arya on her adventures, and maybe even a grown-up Dragon. And who knows? Maybe this time, they’ll actually follow George R.R. Martin’s vision more closely. As Tyrion famously said in the series finale, “Ask me in ten years.”

For now, a full-on sequel to ‘Game of Thrones‘ remains a fantasy. While Sophie Turner might be open to returning under the right circumstances, and fans would probably sell their souls to make it happen, there’s nothing officially in the works. As of now, the franchise is more focused on prequels, like the ongoing ‘House of the Dragon‘ series and the upcoming ‘The Hedge Knight‘, which is set to premiere in 2025.
