Quentin Tarantino is one of the most influential filmmakers of this generation. The director has made some of the most critically acclaimed films like ‘Reservoir Dogs‘, ‘Pulp Fiction‘, ‘Kill Bill‘ and ‘Django Unchained‘ among others. He is also someone who outright praises a film publicly if he likes them.
The 59-year-old filmmaker is in love with Tom Cruise‘s latest film ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘. He has called it a “spectacle” and one of his favorite films of 2022. It looks like Quentin is now on the list of people who loved the ‘Top Gun‘ sequel. It was well received by critics and ended up being one of this year’s highest grosser.

Quentin Tarantino Loves ‘Top Gun: Maverick’
The director of ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ appeared on the ReelBend podcastto shower praise on the Tom Cruise starrer ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’
He said. “I fucking love ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ I thought it was fantastic.” Quentin further added, “I saw it at the theaters. That and [Steven] Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ both provided a true cinematic spectacle, the kind that I’d almost thought that I wasn’t going to see anymore. It was fantastic.”
Tarantino also talked about Tony Scott who had directed the first 1986 film. “There was just this lovely, lovely aspect because I love both Tony Scott’s cinema so much, and I love Tony so much that that’s as close as we’re ever going to get to seeing one more Tony Scott movie.”
He continued, “The respect and the love of Tony was in every frame. It was almost in every decision. It was consciously right there, but in this really cool way that was really respectful. And I think it was in every decision Tom [Cruise] made on the film.”
Tom Cruise Received A Big Paycheck For ‘Top Gun: Maverick’
‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ has grossed around $1.353 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2022 and Cruise’s career as well.
The actor had already received $12.5 million dollars upfront for the sequel. Apart from this base salary, he also made a deal with the film’s development, which grants him 10% of the film’s first-dollar gross.
Some estimates stated that Cruise has earned anywhere between $60 million to $100 million, apart from the $12.5 million he has already received as a fee.
The film was supposed to release on July 12, 2019, but was delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
