Daisy Ridley, the beloved ‘Star Wars‘ actress, has shared a candid and inspiring story about her health journey. In a recent interview with Women’s Health, she revealed a surprising diagnosis: Graves’ disease.
The autoimmune disorder, which affects the thyroid gland, came as a shock to the actress. However, she’s met the challenge with strength and determination.
Daisy Ridley First Attributed The Symptoms To The Demanding Nature Of Her Role In ‘Magpie’
The onset of symptoms was gradual and initially perplexing. After wrapping up the intense filming of the thriller ‘Magpie,’ Ridley began experiencing a rapid heartbeat, unexplained weight loss, and a persistent feeling of exhaustion.
Additionally, at first, she thought that all these issues were caused due to the demanding role. It wasn’t until she visited an endocrinologist that the pieces began to fall into place. Moreover, the doctor’s description of Graves’ disease as ‘tired but weird’ resonated with Ridley.
She further admitted to feeling unusually irritable during that period. “It was funny,” she shared, “I was like, ‘Oh, I just thought I was annoyed at the world,'” Ridley explained. “But turns out everything is functioning so quickly, you can’t chill out.”

Ridley Adopted A Holistic Approach To Healing
In addition to medical treatment, Ridley also talked about adopting a holistic approach to managing her condition. As a long-time vegan, she has further refined her diet by cutting out gluten, although she admits to being flexible with her approach.
“I’m not super strict about it,” she said, “but generally cutting down on gluten makes me feel better,” she added. Additionally, to complement her dietary changes, Ridley has incorporated various wellness practices into her routine. She talked about Infrared saunas, cryotherapy, and acupuncture helping her to manage symptoms.
However, she also acknowledges the privilege associated with these alternative therapies. “I do a fair amount of the holistic stuff, but I also understand that it is a privilege to be able to do those things,” Ridley said. Moreover, by sharing her experience, she’s not only raising awareness about Graves’ disease but also inspiring others to prioritize their well-being.
