“That’s Disenchanting People With Sports Now”: NFL Coach Tony Dungy Expresses Displeasure At Taylor Swift Attending Games

Over the past few weeks, we have had more pictures of Taylor Swift attending Travis Kelce’s games than anything else she has done- all thanks to the NFL.

As football season continues, Swift makes sure that she is at every game the Chiefs play, giving fans an unguarded glimpse of the pop star in her suite, cheering, singing, and clapping for her team. Though the constant panning of the cameras came as a blessing to Swifties everywhere- it is not something that NFL coach Tony Dungy is highly pleased with. Here’s what the coach said about Swift’s constant features at the football game, and how, according to him, it is affecting the NFL.

The American Football veteran has a few things to say about Taylor Swift’s presence in the audience during the NFL games.

Speaking with Fox News, the former player and coach talked about a poll that revealed that less than 25% of GenZ considered themselves ‘avid sports fans.’ The coach said, “I think we’ll always have sports in some form or fashion. Some people are disenchanted with it.”

He then talked about Swift’s effect on the game. In case you don’t know, Swift’s attendance in the audience invited a huge number of additional fans this year after her romance with Kelce. This gave the NFL a hike in their viewership- which might explain why they show a lot of Taylor during the games.

Dungy then said, about the Taylor Swift effect, “That’s the thing that’s disenchanting people with sports now. There’s so much on the outside coming in. Entertainment value and different things that’s taking away from what really happens on the field.”

During her TIME Magazine cover story, Swift reacted to the attention she gets when she attends any of Kelce’s games. “I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” she says. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once. I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

On X, fans came to her defense after Tony’s remark, many of them voicing that Swift has no control over the attention she gets when she is at the games.

Many fans also pointed out all the positive attention the NFL has gotten following Swift’s attendance.

As of now, weeks later on 11th February, the Super Bowl will be held in Las Vegas. Chiefs fans and Swifties alike are manifesting that the Chiefs get through the finals and get to play in the Super Bowl.
