Bold Or Blunder? ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel Makes Emily Go Platinum

Since the news of The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been out, fans have been eyeing spoilers and deets. And, as soon as Emily Blunt popped up with a brand-new look, the internet did what it does best. It jumped headfirst into a heated debate. Overnight, things got fueled up, and before you know it, it has already become a controversy.

Things got so heated that fans started bringing in comparison shots between the old Emily Charlton, who couldn’t go to Paris, and the new one, screaming main character energy. Is our OG Emily still there behind all the glitz? Or, is the shocking makeover hinting at a new plot twist in the sequel?

Emily’s Hair Transformation Hints At ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Plot

When Emily’s first sequel look popped up, it was the hair that drew all the attention. Unlike the red-dyed hair of Emily Charlton in ‘The Devil Wears Prada‘, we saw Emily rocking a sleek bob with icy platinum-colored hair this time. While the chic mane went perfectly well with Emily’s ambitious spirit in the first part, the icy-cold sequel look certainly isn’t giving us ‘assistant’ vibes anymore.

Apart from the hair, Emily’s outfit has also been quite the conversation starter. Blunt shocked almost everyone wearing a red-and-white striped, custom-made hand-knit sweater by Coach with “NY”. The eye-catcher was the bright red apple embroidered across the front. She paired the chic ensemble with a black mini skirt, sheer tights, and a silver chain-link tie. And oh, how can we not talk about those ankle-length boots and monogrammed Dior sunglasses? It seems like the Londoner is trying too hard to fit into the New York style.

However, that’s not the only outfit she dazzled in that day. A couple of hours later, Emily exited the set in the same long-sleeved Coach. But this time, she swapped her miniskirt for a Crimson pair of trousers. Even her ankle boots were gone, too, and were replaced by her chunky white sneakers. Just like that chic bob, Emily is again giving complete Miranda Priestly vibes with the Prada shoulder bag. Costume designers clearly want to show that Emily Charlton is no longer the stressed-out assistant chasing lattes!

But the reason behind the viral debate isn’t just about beauty; it also reveals a lot about her upcoming role, too. The icy-cold look ahead of the sequel suggests that her character has probably climbed the ladder and now has some real power. Many are even comparing her platinum bob to that of Priestly’s, and who knows, maybe she’s now in a similar position herself.

Why Emily’s ‘New Look’ Divided The Fans

The Devil Wears Prada‘ has lived for almost 20 years in our hearts rent-free, so it’s only natural to have strong feelings for the sequel. While some fans have branded Emily’s transformation “iconic”, pointing out her career ladder, others have compared her to “Malibu Barbie’s evil twin”. Taunts aside, some have come up with some solid points, too, regarding the upcoming storyline.

Since the pop-up of Emily’s new look, some fans have floated another storyline for the sequel. Is it possible that Miranda Priestly is facing an existential business threat? And, maybe, Emily’s now in control of the advertising budgets. If that’s true, then Emily climbed up from Miranda’s stressed assistant to her powerful rival. And the icy-blonde hair suddenly makes perfect sense. Back then, Emily was bossed around and often humiliated. Now, she could be the one calling the shots!

Emily Blunt’s platinum bob and bold fashion choices may not please everyone. But they’ve made ‘The Devil Wears Prada‘ sequel impossible to ignore. What do you think about Emily Blunt’s sequel look, a bold or a blunder?
