Shakira gained a lot of attention for the ‘Waka Waka‘ song and it is still loved by many. With this song in 2010, Shakira met her then-partner Gerard Piqué. They were together for 11 years and announced their relationship in 2021. They even had two children together in 2013 and 2015.
Recently she spoke candidly about her relationship with Piqué. The singer opened up about her romance and its downfall. Shakira revealed how she had to sacrifice her own career to give time to Piqué for his football career.
Shakira Made A Sacrifice For Her Love
11 years of a relationship is a long period and when you have kids with that person it is more difficult to part ways. Shakira was in a similar situation with her relationship with Gerard Piqué. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, she talked openly about her relationship with Piqué and how she had to keep her career on hold for his football career.
“For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football, “There was a lot of sacrifice for love,” she said during the interview. Love does come with sacrifices but does she regret choosing her partner over herself?
She also talked about how she thought that only “death can do us part” in her relationship. “My priority was my home, my family. I believed in ’till death do us part.’ I believed that dream,” she told Billboard. It seems she was so in love and thought they could be a forever thing but sadly they announced their separation in 2022 after 11 years of relationship in a joint post.

How Shakira Is Dealing With Her Life And Children
It’s hard to communicate after separating from the person you don’t have a relationship with anymore. Shakira shared in an interview that it is hard to be a single mother. Sometimes you don’t even have time to focus on yourself and the stress of being a mother is hard.
“I don’t know how long it’s been since I got a massage. I have torticollis! Something’s got to give. My neck. My traps. That’s what gives. It’s hard to do everything“, she said. Sources also say that since the separation, they only talk about their boys – Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.
Shakira also added that she is still optimistic about finding love, as her parents have been together for 50 years and they still have that young love to give each other. She further added, “My parents have been together, I don’t know, 50 years, and they love each other like the first day, with a love that’s unique and unrepeatable. So I know it’s possible.”
