Despite being one of the biggest names in Hollywood direction, Christopher Nolan has had his share of negative criticism about his filmmaking. The genius behind films like ‘Oppenheimer‘, ‘The Dark Knight Series’ and ‘Interstellar’ has often received criticism on the complexity of his films, and Nolan has the perfect answer to that.
Speaking about the same to Stephen Colbert on his show, the award winning director who lifted the Oscar for best director last year, talked about how he feels when people comment on not understanding his films. Here’s what he said.
Christopher Nolan Opens Up On People Not Understanding His Films
Christopher Nolan has something to say to people who didn’t understand his films. Speaking to Stephen Colbert he said, “If you are experiencing my film, then you are getting it. I feel very strongly about that. I feel like where people have experienced frustrations with my narratives in the past is sometimes I think they are slightly missing the point.”
“It’s not a puzzle to be unpacked but an experience to be had, preferably in a movie theater but also at home,” he added. He was speaking in reference to his film ‘Tenet‘, where he further added, “You’re not meant to understand everything in Tenet. It’s not all comprehensible.”
The film revolves around a secret agent who must prevent a catastrophic event, navigating temporal paradoxes and confronting the consequences of altering reality. With non-linear storytelling, stunning action sequences, and a talented cast, the film was said to be a thought-provoking, visually stunning cinematic experience.
