Tim Burton Says He Felt “Slightly Experimental” While Making ‘Batman’
Tim Burton’s next project ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘ has him and Michael Keaton team up together once again for the horror-comedy. While talking to Variety, Burton also talked about his experience working on ‘Batman’ and how he got lucky with it.
“I was lucky because at that time, the word “franchise” didn’t exist. So “Batman” felt slightly experimental at the time. … It deviated from what the perception [of a superhero movie] might be,” he said. Burton emphasized implementing his vision in his work.
He explained that with no prior superhero films to observe, he had a chance to create something completely new. He said, “So you didn’t hear that kind of studio feedback, and being in England, it was even further removed. We really just got to focus on the film and not really think about those things that now they think about even before you do it.”
