Tim Allen finally addressed the controversy over his exclusion from the recently released animated film ‘Lightyear’. It turns out that Tom Hanks, who worked with him on ‘Toy Story‘, has some opinions on the topic as well.
If you are not aware, Hanks provided the voice of Woody, the best friend of Buzz Lightyear in four prior Pixar films. He was surprised that Allen, who provided the voice of the Space Ranger action figure, was not contacted for the next film. Chris Evans has voiced the astronaut whose valiant actions served as the toy’s inspiration in the movie ‘Lightyear’. It debuted in theatres on June 17.
Tom Hanks Is Confused Over Tim Allen’s Replacement In ‘Lightyear’
Tom Hanks was questioned if it would be unusual to compete with ‘Lightyear‘ in theatres before the premiere of his movie ‘Elvis’. “How about that?” Hanks responded, sounding a little perplexed. He then added, “Actually, I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen, and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that.”
Hanks further said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know,” when the interviewer suggested that Chris Evans is currently a well-known figure. The actor then added politely, “But here’s the thing: Just as long as people come back to the motion picture theatre. I want to go back into the theatre with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common. That’s what I want to do.”
Tim Allen Speaks About His Exclusion From ‘Lightyear’
In a video interview with Extra from last week, Tim Allen claimed that major ‘Lightyear’ creators weren’t involved in ‘Toy Story’. He continued, “There’s really no Toy Story’s Buzz without Woody.”
When asked if there should have been a better relationship between Buzz the toy and Lightyear, Allen responded, “I wish there was a better connection.”
Lightyear debuted to a disappointing $50.6 million, coming in second to the weekend’s top movie, ‘Jurassic World Dominion‘.
