Universal Bets Big Time On Dwayne Johnson To Revive Their $2 Billion Failing Franchise Which Tom Cruise Couldn’t Save

While Dwayne Johnson’s last few projects have failed to receive decent feedback, there is some good news as he is all set to reprise his role in a popular franchise. It is none other than ‘The Mummy’ franchise.

The initial trilogy ended with ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ in 2008. A reboot was planned with Tom Cruise which was released in 2017 and turned out to be a box office bomb. But Johnson is now reportedly in talks to portray the Scorpion King once again.

Dwayne Johnson Is Expected To Return As The Scorpion King

Dwayne Johnson has been already signed by Universal Pictures

Dwayne Johnson appeared as Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns in 2001. The film received a mixed reaction but was a box office success. However, Johnson’s appearance as the scorpion monster in the end was praised by the audience.

While Universal Pictures attempted to reboot the franchise once in the past and start the Dark Universe, the plans were dropped due to the failure of ‘The Mummy’ in 2017.

The production studio has now reportedly chosen Dwayne Johnson to appear as the Scorpion King once again. Apart from Johnson, Rachel Weisz, Oded Fehr, and John Hannah would also return. Meanwhile, Brendan Fraser’s return has not been confirmed until now. An official statement on the same is currently awaited.

It led to four sequels but Johnson did not return and the role was played by someone else.
