Who Was Selena?
Selena Quintanilla Pérez, known famously as Selena, was a Tejano singer. Known as the Queen of Tejano music, she is often considered to be one of the most influential Latin artists of all time.
She is frequently credited for taking the Tejano genre to the mainstream. In 1992, released an album titled Entre a Mi Mundo which topped the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight months straight.
On March 31, 1995, Selena was shot and killed by her friend and former manager Yolanda Saldivar. She was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Jennifer Lopez portrayed the legendary singer on screen in the eponymous 1997 biographical film when she was an unknown name. The film and her performance were well received and it catapulted her into stardom.
Lopez recently paid a tribute to the legendary singer by going out on a shopping trip on Tuesday in a gray graphic t-shirt featuring her. It was gifted by her sister Lynda Lopez.
“Suzette and the family sent me a great Selena gift box this week and I loved it!!!” she wrote. “I wore this Selena shirt right away to go Christmas shopping. If you like rock and roll tees … these shirts are a super cool gift.”
Lopez further said that Selena was “such a big part of my life“. She also said she will be wearing it in the new year.
