Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial which commenced in April finally concluded in June. The six-week-long trial consisted of startling moments as both actors made explosive revelations about their marriage. The case was originally filed by Depp seeking $50 million in defamation for his ex-wife’s 2018 op-ed in Washington Post.
The Hollywood actor won the defamation trial and was awarded $15 million – $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, which was reduced to $10.35 million due to state laws. Now, Amber wants a part of it covered by her insurance company.

Amber Heard’s Insurance Company Will Not Cover Her Damages
Amber Heard wants her insurance company to cover a portion of the money she owes Johnny Depp after he won against her. But the insurance company said Amber’s own conduct allows them to tell her to deal with it herself.
The ‘Aquaman‘ star had a $1 million liability policy with New York Marine and General Insurance Co. The policy covers all sorts of wrongful conduct, including defamation, but there’s a catch. The governing law for the insurance policy in California, and under California law, dictates an insurance company is not on the hook if the insured (Amber) committed wrongful, “willful” misconduct. New York Marine says not only did the jury find the defamation Amber committed was willful, but it was also malicious.
So, the insurance company wants a declaration from the judge. Based on the policy and the law, it’s not responsible to foot part of Amber’s bill. The fact is a million dollars is a lot, but Amber’s on the hook for more than $8.3 million.
Johnny Depp Post The Trial Is In “Good Spirits”
Meanwhile, the ‘Edward Scissorhands‘ actor had penned a note narrating how his life changed in the blink of an eye after his ex wrote the op-ed. He also mentioned that serious and criminal allegations were levied on him. But, later he expressed his gratitude to the jury for giving him his life back after six years. He also thanked all his supporters and well-wishers for the love they showered on him throughout and promised that the best is yet to come.
Depp’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ co-star and close friend Greg Ellis also reflected on how he was doing after the trial. Ellis mentioned how the actor has been in good spirits. He went on to reveal how the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders. He also claimed that Depp was happy to get his life back and would be focussing on his movie and music career.
