Hugh Jackman is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. He is mostly known for portraying Wolverine in the ‘X-Men’ film series. Until 2021, the role had earned him the Guinness World Record for “longest career as a live-action Marvel character.” But can you imagine him as James Bond?
Before Daniel Craig took over the franchise, it was Jackman who was offered to play the British secret agent. However, for some reason, he decided to pass it on. Let’s find out the reason behind his decision as he revealed in one of his interviews.
Why Did Hugh Jackman Refuse To Act In James Bond Films?
Jackman is synonymous with several roles, especially Wolverine. However, if only things were a bit different, he would be the James Bond of our generation.
Before Daniel Craig, it was ‘The Prestige‘ actor who was offered the lead role in the next James Bond film after Pierce Brosnan. During a 2017 interview, Jackman revelead this news. The Australian actor said that the last Bond film was heavily panned for its outlandish gadgets and laughable storyline. He said that the Bond scripts had become “so unbelievable and crazy,”
“I felt like they needed to become grittier and real.” He further explained, “I didn’t want to do the same things. You know, the role of the hero action star. I mean, it was the meat-and-potatoes of a lot of American films, that archetype. It was all various forms of heroic guys in tough situations. I was like, ‘Uh, no. This is a problem.’”
Jackman then decided to choose Wolverine over 007 agent. “I had a look at it. I was like, ‘If I’m doing that and Wolverine, I’ll have no time to do anything else.’ I clearly find it more interesting to play people who color outside the lines,” he explained.
