Though the songstress has been in the headlines recently for her blossoming love with Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce, the player was not there to support her because of the upcoming Superbowl.
Travis Kelce’s absence at the 2024 Grammy Awards came as a disappointment for Taylor’s fans. But what surprised some others was his absence from her acceptance speech as she received the Album of the Year award for ‘Midnights‘. Speculation is rife as to why she did not mention Kelce in her speech despite growing so close to him in the past few months.
An Elated Taylor Swift Excludes Beau Travis Kelce From Her Grammys Acceptance Speech
After an outstanding year of success in both career and romance, Taylor Swift kicked off her new year with a total of six nominations for the Grammy Awards this year. The pop sensation also won a Grammy, presented to her by Celine Dion. She also took the chance to announce her new album, ‘Tortured Poets Department‘ on the Grammys stage.
After Celine Dion announced that Swift had won the Album of The Year Award, she ascended the stage with her friends Lana Del Rey and Jack Antonoff. Taylor praised Antonoff as a “once-in-a-generation producer” and hailed Del Rey as a “legend” in her acceptance speech.
But she notably did not mention her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, with whom she has been in a relationship since the summer. The NFL star was absent from the awards show as his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, had traveled to Las Vegas earlier that Sunday to gear up for their match against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
“All I want to do is keep being able to do this,” Swift said while accepting the award. “I love it so much. It makes me so happy. It makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award, too. All I want to do is keep doing this,” she added, notably skipping Travis Kelce’s mention.

“She Doesn’t Owe Him A Thank You”: Swifties Assert Taylor Has No Reason To Thank Travis Kelce
Taylor skipping Kelce from her speech didn’t deter the NFL star from showing support for his partner. Travis showed his approval by “liking” an Instagram post by NPR, which featured Taylor gracing the red carpet at the event on Sunday.
On the January 31 episode of ‘The Pat McAfee Show‘, Travis also mentioned how he wished to join Taylor for the Grammys. “I wish I could go support Taylor at the Grammys and watch her win every single award that she’s nominated for. But I think I got practice on Sunday, or I think Sunday is a travel day. I know I got practice on Saturday. But Sunday is travel day,” he said.
While Kelce’s absence from the Grammys irked many Swifties, they seemed to understand Taylor’s choice of not mentioning him in her acceptance speech. “Thank him for what?” a fan asked on Facebook, questioning people pointing out his absence from her speech.
Another person noted, “She earned them in her own!” A third one chimed in, stating, “No reason to! Even though I love the love story, he didn’t help her to get there.”
“Stop it! They haven’t dated longest enough for him to have impacted her music. She doesn’t owe him a thank you,” added another. Another fan questioned, “Why should she? He wasn’t even with her when she was making her music he’s new.”
“Why would she? She was a singer before he came into her life, and will be a part of one of her songs eventually. She can thank him at that time,” asked another. “He had nothing to do with Midnights, so why would she?” noted another fan.
