The actor’s autobiography revealed his involvement in the strangest Austin news story of the 1990s. The Oscar winner was arrested nude on the evening of 1999 for disturbing the peace in the neighborhood.

‘The Wedding Planner’ star revealed the events which got him arrested in the year 1999 in his autobiography ‘Greenlight‘. Matthew McConaughey summarised the events in this book recalling he was naked, playing bongos, and high on marijuana when the police officer arrested him. McConaughey described the night in question as a jam session, with the star deciding to undress, open up his windows, and “smoke a bowl” while listening to “the beautiful African melodic beats of Henri Dikongué play through my home speakers.”
Matthew McConaughey further wrote, “What I didn’t know was that while I was banging away in my bliss, two Austin policemen also thought it was time to barge into my house unannounced, wrestle me to the ground with nightsticks, handcuff me, and pin me to the floor”. McConaughey recalled, “Before I’d taken three steps up the wall, the Cornhusker body-slammed me back down onto the brick footpath”, further adding that six police cars arrived almost immediately, while his neighbors gathered outside of their houses to see what the commotion was all about.
The actor was fined $50 for the hilarious, yet unfortunate incident which immediately made headlines locally and internationally. McCoanoughey jokes that two days later, BONGO NAKED t-shirts were all over Austin.

Matthew McConaughey’s ‘Greenlight‘ takes the readers on the journey from the actor’s childhood, a career in Hollywood, and marriage to Camila Alves.
