Will Smith’s Latest Salary Proves That ‘Oscar Slap Incident’ Has Not Affected His Earning Power

Will Smith has been in the news this year for the wrong reason. He shocked the world when he went on stage and slapped comedian and host Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards. Will did it in response to a joke Chris cracked on his wife’s alopecia. It became one of the most talked about incidents of this year.

But the slapping incident did not sit well with a lot of people who felt it was rude and unnecessary. Contrary to a belief that it affected Will’s career, his recent salary proves otherwise.

Months after the Oscar slap incident, Will Smith remains one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. According to a report from Variety, the 53-year-old actor has received a hefty sum of $35 million for his upcoming action film ‘Emancipation’.

The sum makes him the second highest paid actor in Hollywood, only behind Tom Cruise, who charged $100 million for his recent blockbuster ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

It looks like the incident has had no effect on Smith’s career as people thought it would. Post the incident, we have not read major news of Will being removed from a project due to his on-stage behavior.

The only thing that happened was the Academy Board members banned Smith from attending Oscars for 10 years. It’s obvious that Smith’s stardom has worked as a Teflon coating in protecting him from further damage.

After the Oscar incident, people were wondering whether Will Smith will be returning to the ‘Bad Boys‘ franchise or not.

Martin Lawrence, his co-star, was asked about the possibility of Sony extinguishing the franchise over the Oscars scandal. To which he responded, “We got one more at least.” This is probably enough proof that Smith isn’t going anywhere, at least for ‘Bad Boys 4′.

‘Bad Boys‘ is a buddy cop action comedy franchise that has continued for more than two decades. The first and second films dropped in 1995 and 2003.

The third film in the franchise, titled ‘Bad Boys For Life,’ was released in 2020; almost 17 years after the second one. Unlike the first two, the third film met with mostly positive responses.
