The actor now revealed that the well-acclaimed scene from the movie was unscripted.
Zac Efron recently appeared on ‘Still Watching Netflix’ along with co-star Joey King to promote his new movie ‘A Family Affair’. The duo also answered some surprising questions from a cookie jar, and that’s when Efron revealed that his famous scene is actually an improv.
Zac Efron On His ‘High School Musical’ Scene Being Improved
When it comes to improvisation, no one can beat Zac Efron. The former Disney actor revealed that his famous ‘High School Musical’ scene where he gives his iconic performance of ‘Bet on It’ was all improv. “That was all improv. And we shot it, I think the whole song, in like three hours,” Efron revealed.
“When we shot that. We just had no ideas for what to do on the day,” he added. “The director, he was like, ‘Dude, we have no concept for this song. What do you want to do?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know, we’re on a golf course.’” And then Efron belted out the iconic performance.
In the scene, Troy Bolton breaks out in an angry dance at a golf course owned by Sharpay’s family. His performance has been praised for being raw and powerful.

Joey King Is All Praises For Zac Efron
Just like any other fan of Zac Efron’s, Joey King is also head over heels for the actor. Efron has been praised by many for his dance sequence on the golf course. Co-star Joey King is no different.
“You in that video- iconic,” Joey King told Efron during the same interview. She further revealed that when she was 10 years old, she received a mini High School Musical locker as a gift, which she would often use to sing the song sung by Efron.
“I would put my pencil case in it and all this stuff, and I would press buttons and you would sing to me!” King said. An excited Efron gave King a high five before saying, “No way! Oh, we have to run that back.”
The two are set to appear together as boss and secretary in their upcoming film ‘A Family Affair‘ alongside Nicole Kidman.
