DC’s ‘Batgirl’ Will No Longer Be Released in 2022, Warner Bros. Updates Its Release Schedule

The DC extended universe is just getting started. Several new characters and new movies are in the queue to be released. According to HBO MAX, ‘Batgirl‘ was supposed to be released sometime in 2022, alongside ‘Black Adam‘ and ‘Shazam!: Fury of The Gods.’ However, with recent developments, that possibility has been brushed aside.

Starring Leslie Grace and directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (the Ms. Marvel directors), Batgirl would have marked the character’s first live-action appearance. The delay in the movie’s release came to be known from Warner Bros’ update on its release schedule sent to UK Media.

Batgirl will be released in theatres too

Recently, Warner Bros, the parent company of DC Films, and Discovery merged, and the company is now called Warner Bros Discovery. Due to these developments, multiple releases have been delayed. Several upcoming projects are seeing the red light for now. When Warner Bros updated its releases schedule to UK Media, Batgirl was spotted in the section for ‘2023 theatrical releases.’

The movie was originally planned to be released only on HBO MAX, but will now be released in the theaters too. It never saw an official release date, and now it’s pushed to even a later date. Various reports are suggesting that Warner Bros. is brushing up its release strategies once again, and might be more focused on theatrical releases than on streaming platforms.

This new strategy could be governed by the fact that HBO MAX isn’t available in many regions. A theatrical release will allow fans from all parts of the world to enjoy the movie. The extra box office profit just adds to another advantage.
