With James Gunn taking over the scraps of DCU, fans are seeing him building the franchise from scratch. Along with the envisioned DCU, Gunn, and Peter Safan have planned to bring in a few new faces as well starting with David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane in the upcoming ‘Superman: Legacy’.
However, with all the recasting, the fans have pondered if the existing actors will reprise their characters. Safran confirmed that neither Jason Momoa will return as Aquaman nor will Dwayne Johnson‘s Black Adam. But one ‘Black Adam’ star teased his return in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

‘Black Adam’ Star Aldis Hodge Is Positive About His Return As Hawkman
Alongside The Rock as the titular character, Aldis Hodge played the role of Hawkman a.k.a Carter Hall, an archeologist who is the reincarnation of an Egyptian prince. He is also the leader of the Justice Society of America. During his recent interview with ScreenRant, the actor expressed his interest in reprising the role of Hawkman in the future.
Hodge was asked about his potential return to Gunn’s universe. He said, “I can’t really speak to that. You’re gonna have to talk to James about it. I don’t know really what’s in store for Hawkman. I will say that I would like to finish out the plans that we had for Hawkman, and sort of revisit them, because there’s such a body of depth when it comes to his whole storyline, and all that kind of stuff.”
The actor further added, “So, if that’s something they’re interested in, my door’s always open for that. But, I know they want to build out a very different world. I can’t speak to whether I’m going to be part of that world, as that’s above my paygrade, but if they want to pick up the phone, I’m always here.”Seems like the balls are in Gunn’s court now, on how to proceed with Hawkman’s story.

Does Hawkgirl’s Appearance In ‘Superman: Legacy’ Indicate The Return Of Hawkman?
Along with David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, James Gunn also announced Isabela Merced will portray Hawkgirl. Out of all the DC characters, her origin has been the most confusing one with multiple storylines. Although her questionable appearance might indicate Hawkman’s return to Gunn’s universe as well.
In the DC Comics, Hawkgirl is the wife of Hawkman. With Merced’s Hawkgirl in ‘Superman: Legacy’ being the first theatrical appearance of the character, there are endless possibilities to explore the character’s storyline. However, it is still unknown if the debut of Hawkgirl will be tied to Black Adam’s Hawkman.
Aldis Hodge Previously Expressed His Interest To Develop Hawkman Further
The actor seemed to desperately play the role of Hawkman again, even after the disastrous performance of ‘Black Adam‘. In 2023, Aldis Hodge said in an interview that he was waiting for James Gunn to call him for the role reprisal of Hawkman. He said, “I ain’t got the James yet, but you know, we’ll see. I mean, if they get back around to it, I’m ready, James.”
Hodge said that Hawkman “has a rich history that has yet to be explored. His backstory, his curse, his history with Hawkgirl. There’s so much there to fill out a standalone film — a few standalone films! I just hope we get to explore it.”
