Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the DCU, a major overhaul has been in place. They have scrapped several projects and announced a fresh start. While fans have not appreciated the firing of major movie stars, there are still some faithful to the revival plans of James Gunn. There have been rumors Gunn wants to cast ‘Euphoria’ star Jacob Elordi as DCU’s next Superman.
While Matt Reeves helmed ‘The Batman’ is the only project to be safe from the axe, James Gunn is reportedly focussing on bringing a younger, never-before-seen version of Superman. There has been a lot of speculation among the fandom, who are still dealing with the needlessly awkward departure of Henry Cavil. So is Jacob Elordi the next Superman?

Quickly dispelling all rumors, James Gunn took to his Twitter to announce the truth to all the speculation. He has gone on record saying Jacob Elordi will not play Superman in his version of the story. This is an important role, and James Gunn is yet to pick the top candidate for a job that will be a multi-picture commitment. The DCU is erratic, and James Gunn’s work has just begun.
My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet. Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t. We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them. 🧜♂️ https://t.co/2SGWV2RSI7

New DCU co-boss James Gunn revealed on Twitter that he’d reveal part of the 10-year plan soon. The goal is to bring the projects together under the connective thread of storytelling and continuity, akin to what their competitor has done.
While Jacob Elordi will not play Superman, there’s already a new slate of exciting projects to be excited for. Already familiar with Marvel, Gunn finally jumped to DCU with his ‘Peacemaker’ series. It was the kind of edgy project with character development that has been missing from DCU canon. Gunn is looking towards Green Lantern, saying the character is “important” to the franchise’s future.
He has also confirmed talks with Ben Affleck. For a long time, Affleck was going to write and direct a Batman movie featuring himself as the caped crusader. There are also plans for uniting DCU and the DC comic division and giving more representation to obscure comic-book characters.
