Starting the entire franchise from scratch is a tricky move, but if it can be pulled off by anyone, then it has to be James Gunn. Although fans still have their doubts Superman: Legacy will introduce a few new faces to the franchise. Replacing Henry Cavill was a bold move and Gunn did receive a lot of criticism, but he found his redemption in David Corenswet.
The new boss of the DCEU claims that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will mark the beginning of the franchise, thus making it a canon. However, the fans are left confused when the entire cast of the new Superman film was revealed as few of the actors will be seen reprising their roles from the earlier films.
Will Superman: Legacy be Marked the Canon for The New DC?
Joining David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will be Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, and Nathan Fillion in the upcoming rebooted Superman movie. Peter Safran told Vanity Fair that DC Studios was aiming to make its new franchise of films and TV shows as easy to understand as possible. Safran said, “We are trying to minimize audience confusion and maximize their enjoyment”.
A fan on Reddit commented that “This DCU is so damn confusing. They should have just done a hard reboot and scrapped everything from the [Zack] Snyder movie era”. Another fan added, “Confuse the fans more, please”. Although some fans are a little frustrated by this though hoping that the DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters would become a completely fresh jumping-on point in DC’s cinematic universe.
