After a long wait, DC finally dropped the trailer of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘ starring Jason Momoa in the titular role, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Joining the ensemble is Amber Heard, reprising her role as Mera, which received a lot of attention than the movie, due to the infamous legal battle against her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
The court proceeding of 2020 almost drowned Johnny Depp’s credibility, causing him to lose out on numerous good deals. Meanwhile, Amber Heard claimed that Depp’s public attacks on her character were the result of her tarnished reputation, leading James Wan to reduce her screen time in ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’. But how true is this claim?
Amber Heard Claims Her Role In ‘Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom’ Was Intentionally Cut Short
The actress reprised her role as the sea princess in ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘ during her defamation trial with Johnny Depp last year. During the trial, Amber Heard testified that her role became “Very pared down” amid the negative attention reflecting on her personal life. She argued that her reputation and career “took a hit” due to Depp’s public attacks on her character.
Regarding her role in the sequel, Amber Heard said, “I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film. I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character — without giving any spoilers away — two characters fighting with one another, and they basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch out.”
Amber Heard’s talent agent Jessica Kovacevic testified that she was told, “Heard’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom role was reduced due to chemistry issues with Momoa, but believes that it was indeed inimical press that affected her career.”

James Wan Reveals The Truth About Heard’s Mera Role
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, director James Wan set the record straight on the rumors surrounding Amber Heard’s role in ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, claiming Mera was never a major focus of the sequel, and Jason Momoa’s hero was going to spend much more time with his on-screen half-brother Orm which will be played by Patrick Wilson.
James Wan said, “I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”
