Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner may have started as a supporting character in the new DC Universe, but the actor is quickly becoming one of James Gunn’s most recognizable recurring stars.
With ‘Lanterns’ bringing Guy to television and ‘Man of Tomorrow’ preparing to put him back on the big screen again, Fillion’s DCU footprint is getting surprisingly large. And his take on ‘Supergirl‘ makes it all the more exciting.
Nathan Fillion Has Plenty Of Faith In Gunn’s DCU
While ‘Supergirl’ had a mixed theatrical reception, Fillion isn’t looking at the movie through the same lens as its box office numbers or review scores. Instead, he is focused on seeing these DC characters finally take shape under Gunn’s direction.

Speaking with Variety, Fillion praised Milly Alcock’s interpretation of Supergirl, calling her take on the character “brilliant.” He also made it clear that he remains impressed by Gunn’s approach to the franchise.
“I can’t tell you much as far as to how people responded, I can tell you, though, how I respond. I really enjoy when the right person is selected for the right job. Milly Alcock, I think her take on Supergirl is brilliant; I am so pleased with these favorite characters of mine coming to life.”
That relationship has certainly paid off. Fillion has now played Guy Gardner across multiple DCU projects, making the character one of the more consistent threads connecting different corners of the franchise.
“I have yet to be disappointed by anything James Gunn does, which is great because he puts me in most everything he does!” he added. And considering how unpredictable a new shared universe can be, having an actor who clearly enjoys returning to the same world is great.
Guy Gardner’s DCU Future Is Getting Bigger
Fillion’s Guy Gardner will return in ‘Man of Tomorrow’, which brings David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor back for another major DCU story. The movie will also introduce Lars Eidinger as Brainiac. But Fillion isn’t stopping there.

The actor revealed that he has already recorded his dialogue for the upcoming animated ‘Mister Miracle’ series. That means Guy Gardner is becoming much more than a one-project character. He is appearing across live-action television, movies, and animation, giving Fillion a remarkably broad presence within Gunn’s developing universe.
For an actor who once seemed like an unusual choice for Guy Gardner, Fillion now looks increasingly comfortable in the role. And if Gunn continues finding new places for the character, this may only be the beginning.
