The new bosses of DC, James Gunn and Peter Safran have scheduled the slate of projects for the next 10 years, but not all projects will be a canon event for the DCU. A few of the films will be a part of DC’s Elseworlds as well.
One of the projects is ‘Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios‘, which will take a unique take on DC’s popular characters. A recent image reveals a positive update about ‘Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios’.
‘Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios’ Introduces A Unique Take On Caped Crusador
A new image drop by Jose Iturriaga reveals a new illustration of the Caped Crusader from ‘Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios’. Unlike Batman’s famous costume, this outfit is heavily inspired by Aztec cultural designs. The new image indicates that the film will be set during the time of the Spanish Inquisition with Batman defending the lands against conquistadors.
The concept artist Jose Iturriaga wrote in the post, “The first official image from the Batman Azteca animated film has been released. I had the honor of working as a Concept Environment Artist and cannot wait to see the film when it’s released on Max.”

The Cast Of ‘Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios’
‘Narcos: Mexico’ star Horacio Garcia Rojas will voice ‘Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios’ version of Dark Knight. The animated film will also bring back two of the most iconic Batman archnemises including Joker and Two-Face.
The Joker will be voiced by ‘Pokémon: Detective Pikachu’ actor Omar Chaparro. Meanwhile, ‘Money Heist’ star Álvaro Morte will be the voice of Two-Face.
Plot Of ‘Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios’
The film synopsis explains that Batman Azteca will follow the story of Yohualli Coatl who is a young Aztec boy whose village is raided by the Spanish conquistadors, leading to the deaths of his father and village leader. Somehow Yohualli escapes to Tenochtitlan to warn King Moctezuma and the high priest, Yoka, of the imminent danger looming over them.
Using the temple of Tzinacan, the bat god, Yohualli trains with his mentor and assistant, Acatzin, to develop equipment and weaponry to confront the Spaniard invasion, protect Moctezuma’s temple, and avenge his father’s death.
