James Gunn Has An ‘Eight To 10-Year Plan’ For DC
Fans of both DC and Marvel were shocked to see Gunn switch to DC and become the co-chairman and co-CEO of the studio along with Peter Safran.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, they met their new Warner Bros. Discovery cohorts at a virtual town hall with CEO David Zaslav on Thursday. They focused on telling one story to become like Marvel.
“This was such a unique opportunity to tell one great overarching story”, Safran said, who has produced ‘Shazam!’ and ‘Aquaman’. “One beautiful big story across film, television gaming, live-action, and animation.”
Gunn talked about a ten-year plan. “We spent the past couple days with a group of some of the best thinkers in the industry, the best writers in the industry starting to map out that eight to 10 year plan of what it’s going to look like in theater, in TV, in animation, across the board for these characters,” he said.

Gunn Wants To Focus On Lesser Known Superheroes
Even when he was working for Marvel, Gunn was gravitating toward lesser-known comics and characters. Case in point ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ which became a massive success.
However, he also wants to pay tribute to DC’s well-known heroes. “I love Superman, and I love Batman. I love their interaction,” Gunn said. “I love the ways in which they’re the same and the ways in which they are completely different.”
At the town hall, Gunn directly addressed CEO Zaslav. “I know that you are doing all this because you love these characters too, and you love the possibility, and the hope that they represent and that has been clear to us from the beginning,” Gunn said.
