The last time we saw Green Lantern on screen was in 2011, starring Ryan Reynolds. In the film, Ryan played Hal Jordan, who eventually becomes the new Green Lantern after the ring chooses its worthy candidate. Hal goes through rigorous practice to become part of the galactic police force and even suffers prejudice from the group. He defeats the fear-based creature, Parallax. However, in the post-credits scene, we see Sinestro taking the yellow ring and in turn becoming the Parallax force. Will there be another ‘Green Lantern‘ installment this year? Will Sinestro be the new villain of the film?
After a long pause of twelve years, DC is planning to resume with the ‘Green Lantern‘ franchise. Although the first film was not an expected success, DC fans might soon see a series of the Green Lantern force. The 2011 film with a budget of $200 million was able to reap only $219.9 million in box office collection. Let us see what should we expect for the upcoming series.

What’s Happening With The Green Lantern Series?
In the statement announcing the ‘Green Lantern‘ series, DC revealed that Mariko Tamaki was originally the screenwriter for the series. However, he is being taken over by Jeremy Adams. Xermánico will be the visual artist of the series. DC further shares what is in store for Hal Jordon in the new series: “The visionary team of Jeremy Adams and Xermánico present a tale of redemption, loss, and finding out that maybe you can go home again, in Green Lantern.”
They further added, “Spinning out of the events of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Guardians of Oa at the heart of the Green Lantern Corps have quarantined Sector 2814, home of the planet Earth—and its champion along with it! A heartbreaking defeat has sent Hal reeling, returning home to rediscover his roots…and find the man responsible for ruining his life: Sinestro. At least if you’re willing to hot-wire a power ring to do it. ” This confirms that the series will start with the clash between Sinestro and Hal.

More Upcoming DC Series
‘Green Lantern‘ is not the only series that was announced this year. The DC Universe has a portfolio of numerous projects coming up this year. For instance, ‘The Penguin’, ‘DC Super Hero High’, and untitled Arkham, Justice League Dark, and Val and Zod series. All these are in development including ‘Green Lantern,’ which will be launched on the HBO Max network. ‘The Penguin‘ and the Arkham series will follow the 2022 ‘Batman’ film.
The release date and the number of seasons the ‘Green Lantern’ series will include are yet to be announced. The announcement also shared that the series will be derived from a new John Stewart Green Lantern story from writer Philip Kennedy Johnson and artist Osvaldo Montos.
