Connor McCaffery has announced he is stepping down from his role as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Butler University, with his girlfriend, WNBA star Caitlin Clark, offering a brief but supportive response.
In an April 9 Instagram post, McCaffery confirmed his departure from the Bulldogs’ coaching staff, expressing gratitude for his time with the program. He wrote, “End of an era! Forever grateful to Coach (Thad) Matta for the opportunity that he gave me. Learned a lot and worked with great people 🙏🏼 excited for what’s next !”
Clark, who plays guard for the Indiana Fever, reacted to the post with a short message in the comments, writing, “Fun times 💙,” she wrote. It remains unclear whether McCaffery has secured another coaching opportunity or if his next move will keep him in Indiana.
The couple, both alumni of the University of Iowa, began dating in April 2023. They later made their relationship public in August that year when Clark shared photos of the pair on Instagram, captioning the post, “Best end to summer.”

The couple has continued to publicly support one another on social media, offering glimpses into their relationship. In January, McCaffery celebrated Clark’s birthday with a heartfelt post that read, “Happy 24th CC,” adding, “celebrating you is a privilege, and I’m so grateful for the laughter and joy you bring to our everyday lives ♾️ 2026 has so much in store for you. I love you.”
Clark later reshared the post to her Instagram Stories, replying with an affectionate message: “Love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu,” accompanied by a heart emoji.
Caitlin Clark Reacts To Indiana Fever Free Agency Moves

Caitlin Clark also drew attention this week for her reaction to the Indiana Fever’s roster moves ahead of the 2026 WNBA season.
The team re-signed three-time All-Star Kelsey Mitchell to a one-year contract worth $1.4 million. Indiana also retained Lexie Hull and added forward Monique Billings, who previously played for the Golden State Valkyries.
Clark responded by sharing the team’s official announcements on her Instagram Stories without adding any text. The Fever are coming off a season in which Clark was limited to 13 games due to injuries. Despite her absence, the team won the Commissioner’s Cup and reached the WNBA semifinals.
