Evangeline Lilly Rejected Hugh Jackman’s ‘X-Men’ And Joss Whedon’s ‘Wonder Woman’

Evangeline Lilly is one of the most successful actresses in modern times. After doing small roles, Lilly got the role of Kate Austen in the ABC series ‘Lost.’ Both the show and her role met with critical acclaim and she won several awards for it. She has also acted in several films.

But there was a time when the Canadian actress actually rejected two major projects. One of them was an ‘X-Men‘ film offered to her by Hugh Jackman and the second one was Joss Whedon’s ‘Wonder Woman‘. So let’s find out in detail why she rejected both these films.

Evangeline Lilly is no stranger to superhero films. She has appeared in two Marvel movies, the first ‘Ant-Man‘ and its sequel ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’ In the past, she has rejected two superhero flicks.

In an episode of the ‘Happy Sad Confused‘ podcast, the 43-year-old actress talked about rejecting ‘X-Men.‘ In 2011, Hugh Jackman approached her for a role in ‘X-Men‘ while she was shooting ‘Reel Steel‘ with him.

I was like, ‘No. It doesn’t interest me. I’m not interested,’ she said. “I was like, ‘I feel like such a dick because I’m talking to an X-Men! The X-Men! And I’m telling him, ‘No that doesn’t appeal. Like, what?!’ I felt so rude!”

In the same interview, Lilly revealed that Joss Whedon had offered her the title role of Wonder Woman in a project that didn’t materialize. “I think my impression, coming away from it, was I had no desire and he could tell,” she said.

It didn’t appeal and there was nothing about the meeting that like, jazzed me or made me think like, ‘Oh, I’ve gotta do this.’ Nothing clicked. Nothing felt good,” Lilly added.

She said that she wasn’t interested in superhero films and that’s why she rejected the offers. Lilly also sensed that Whedon was offended by the rejection but she said she did what was right for her.
