Jennifer Lawrence has never been one to hold back her opinion, especially when it comes to herself. The Oscar-winning actress is known for her refreshingly blunt honesty about herself. But this once almost cost her one of her biggest roles.

Lawrence believed she never should have been cast in ‘The Hunger Games‘, the very franchise that launched her into global superstardom and made her one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Surprisingly, Lawrence’s doubts had nothing to do with ‘The Hunger Games’ movie at all. Instead, she believed she was the problem. “I am a troll, I hate myself. I think the movie is great, but their biggest mistake was [casting] me,” Lawrence revealed.

Her reasoning had less to do with her acting capabilities to portray Katniss Everdeen and more with everything that came after the cameras stopped rolling. Lawrence was convinced she was embarrassing the movie every single time she stepped onto a red carpet.

“Out of the four premieres, I’ve tripped in two or three of them. Like, massive trips,” she admitted. “It’s so scary, and then I end up getting so nervous that I get really hyper. So then I go do interviews, and I’m like, ‘I’m like a Chihuahua. I’m shaking. I’m peeing!’ And then afterwards, I’m like, ‘I just talked about peeing on the red carpet!'”

Though we love Lawrence’s famously clumsy and unfiltered personality, at the time she was genuinely worried she wasn’t properly representing her blockbuster franchise.

As it turns out, Lawrence’s concerns went far beyond awkward red-carpet moments. Before signing on to play Katniss, she nearly walked away from the movie because of another rising franchise of the time.

“I almost didn’t do ‘Hunger Games’ because ‘Twilight’ had come out, and that fandom had happened,” Lawrence explained. “When I was trying to talk to people about making this decision after ‘Hunger Games’ got offered to me, it was hard to explain to people this level of fame.”

Ironically, Lawrence even once auditioned for ‘Twilight’. Though, according to her, she was rejected almost immediately.

Along with the fear of fame, Lawrence was also conscious that the franchise could define her entire career. “I have to churn out movies in between so that I’m not only known for this franchise,” she explained. “I was still in a franchise, so I was still trying to counteract the franchise-ness, and I would still be doing that if I was in ‘Twilight’.”
