But the two didn’t always get along. The 59-year-old actor mentioned once how he really “tortured” the ‘Titanic‘ star while shooting for a film back in 1993.

At the 2016 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the ‘Edward Scissorhands’ actor opened up about his experience of shooting the 1993 film ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape’ with Leonardo DiCaprio.

He was asked, “Were you and Leo well behaved on that shoot?” To which he paused for a second and then responded, “Leo might have been”, and the crowd erupted into laughter with his answer. He then said, “I wasn’t.”

The moderator poked Depp about his relationship with Leonardo. The actor said, “I respect Leo a lot you know. He worked really hard. He did. He worked really hard on that film and spend a lot of time researching whatnot and stuff like that and then he came to set he was ready to work. He was ready to work hard and he was really, you know, all his ducks were in a row….and I tortured him.”

He concluded, “I really did, I actually did because he was always talking about these video games you know. [sic] And no, I will not give you a drag of my cigarette while you hide from your mother again Leo no.”

‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape’ is a coming-of-age film that chronicles the life of a 25-year-old Gilbert (Depp), who is a grocery store clerk caring for his obese mother (Cates), and his intellectually disabled younger brother (DiCaprio).

The ‘Rango’ actor and his defamation case lawyer Camille Vasquez have become good friends ever since she led him to his victory in the case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

She recently met the 59-year-old actor in a backstage area at his concert in Prague. Camille introduced Depp to her British boyfriend Edward Owen as they shared a light-hearted moment. The lawyer was named partner at her law firm Brown Rudnick after the trial concluded in June this year.

Post the conclusion of the defamation case, Depp has kept himself busy with work. ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor has been doing a Europe tour with guitarist Jeff Beck. The musical duo has been performing songs from their latest album ’18’.
