Jimmy Kimmel’s 2023 Oscar Monologue
The 2023 Academy Awards is hosted by popular talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. He has been joking about the infamous slap incident that was the talking point of last year’s Oscars.
In his monologue for the 95th Academy Awards, the 55-year-old took a dig at Will Smith. “We want you to have fun. We want you to feel safe. And most importantly, we want me to feel safe“, he said.
He further added: “So we have strict policies in place. If anyone in this theater commits an act of violence at any point during the show, you will be awarded the Oscar for best actor and be permitted to give an 18-minute long speech.”
This was a direct reference to Smith winning the Best Actor Award during that night for ‘King Richard‘ after which he gave a speech apologizing to everyone, except Chris Rock. He added, “seriously, the Academy has a crisis team in place. If anything unpredictable or violent happens during the ceremony, just do what you did last year — nothing. Maybe even give the assailant a hug.”

Kimmel Also Mocked James Cameron For Not Attending
Filmmaker James Cameron did not attend the Oscar event. He has been nominated as a producer of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, which is one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
Jon Landau, his producer and friend said that Cameron could not attend due to “personal reasons.” Tom Cruise, whose film ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ received a nom, was also absent from the event.
“The two guys who insisted you go to the theater, didn’t go to the theater,” Kimmel said. He joked that you know a ceremony is too long if Jim Cameron cannot attend it. Cruise, on the other hand, is working on the eighth installment of the ‘Mission Impossible‘ franchise.
