Selena Gomez started out her career at a very young age in the series ‘Barney & Friends’. As a teenager, she acted in Disney’s television series ‘Wizards of Waverly Place.’ However, there was one thing that she wasn’t allowed to say around that time.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 30-year-old artist said that Disney “explicitly told” her to not use a very common phrase. It was, “What the hell?” “I wasn’t a wild child by any means, but I was on Disney, so I had to make sure not to say ‘What the hell?’ in front of anyone,” she said.

Gomez stated that she was “putting” pressure on herself to be “the best role model” while portraying Alex Russo on the Disney show. It ran between 2007 to 2012. “Now I think being the best role model is being honest, even with the ugly and complicated parts of yourself,” Gomez added.

The actress said that she is no longer “haunted by the idea that people would always associate” her with Disney. “I definitely feel free of it,” she added.

Gomez said that sometimes she gets triggered but she is not afraid of who she was in the past; stating that she wants to be a different person from who she was back in the day.
