Sofia Vergara Forbids ‘Modern Family’ Co-Star Ed O’Neill From Dying Before The Show’s Sequel Is Made

Modern Family has been a family television staple even years after it ended. And Sofia Vergara‘s trophy wife character, Gloria Delgado, is everyone’s favorite. Fans have had hopes of a spin-off of the show. In every cast get-together, fans expect an announcement, though in vain. Meanwhile, Sofia has contended that it is too soon for a sequel or spin-off after the ABC production ended with a teary goodbye in April 2020.

However, recently, while doing a cover story for Variety, the actress revealed her desire to appear in a spin-off of the show. Moreover, she jested that Ed O’Neill, who plays Gloria’s older husband Jay Pritchett, should not die before they make a television movie of the series.

Sofia Vergara and Ed O’Neill made the perfect pair for eleven years in ‘Modern Family’. With Sofia as the hilarious trophy wife Gloria, and Ed as the much older husband Jay, the two cracked up viewers with laughter.

In her interview with Variety, Sofia revealed, I’d die to be on that set…It’d be so much fun. A TV movie, maybe?” However, Sofia agrees that it would be too soon to bring the show back to screen.

Meanwhile, the ‘Gresilda’ actress teased Ed for his old age. Vergara humorously said to Ed, “You look f*** old.” The two were watching ‘Clipped’ where Ed plays Donald Sterling, the former L.A. Clippers owner.

Sofia said, “I always joke with him [saying], ‘Ed, don’t die because if we do the sequel, it will take some time, and you’re the oldest of us. You can’t be dead.”

Co-creator of ‘Modern Family’ Steven Levitan praised Sofia as a “rare combination of being strong, funny and beautiful.” He added, “Sofía is naturally savvy. She knows how to make people feel good about themselves … She was never pretentious. Despite all her hard-earned success, when she messed up, she was always the first one to laugh at herself, which signaled to everyone on set that it was fine to laugh along with her.”

The show’s cast has remained close after it ended four years ago, as all of them often get together. Meanwhile, Sofia was recently nominated for an Emmy for her lead role in the Netflix limited series ‘Griselda‘.
