For longtime Witcher enthusiasts, few stories are as beloved, or as fiercely debated, as “The Last Wish,” the fateful encounter that binds Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Vengerberg forever. Now, the story is being re-imagined, more than twenty years after its publication and after several screen and game versions.
This time, it is coming in the form of a graphic novel. It will be a throwback to the origins of ‘The Witcher’ mythos, and an indication that despite the abundance of adaptations in the world, some stories still deserve another turn in the spotlight.
‘The Last Wish’ Will Mark A New Beginning For Geralt

The year 2026 will mark a milestone for Witcher fans. ‘The Witcher: The Last Wish’ graphic novel will be released on August 11, 2026,. It will be the sixth adaptation of the short stories of Andrzej Sapkowski. Moreover, the book won’t be a tie-in or filler material, but a direct adaptation of one of the most powerful stories of the franchise. It’s the story that brought Yennefer, gave rise to their romance, and made Geralt more than just a monster.

Now, the creative team behind this adaptation is stepping forward to do it justice. CD Projekt RED’s writer and editor, Marcin Zwierzchowski, serves as the primary writer, with an English adaptation by Stefan Kiełbasiewicz. The story is visually left in the hands of Guillermo Fajardo. Also involved are colorist Neeraj Menon and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, who had previously collaborated on ‘The Witcher: Corvo Bianco’.
The new volume is in both paperback and a high-end 72-page hardcover, with cover art by painter Kai Carpenter. The promise of fidelity is what makes this adaptation such a big moment, not to Netflix, but to the original text. The fans will finally have a complete, visualized retelling of the short story in the way it was intended to be enjoyed. And that means returning to the chaos, danger, and dark humor that defined Geralt’s earliest adventures.
What The Adaptation Means For ‘The Witcher’ Universe’s Future

The plot remains as memorable as ever: a bored Dandelion frees a djinn in hopes of receiving three wishes. Instead, he nearly dies. Geralt takes him to a nearby town in search of magical assistance, only to discover that the only mage who can heal him is also the last person he wants to involve in his life: the manipulative, unpredictable, ruinously powerful Yennefer of Vengerberg.

Their clash sets off a fuse of magic, pride, desire, and danger that eventually results in Geralt’s ultimate wish, a wish that is still debated by fans decades later. This is the story where everything changes. And now, it’s being drawn and reimagined panel by panel for a new generation. To a great extent, this project is a continuation of all types of Witcher narratives.
And to those fans who remain divided on how Yennefer has been depicted in other versions, this graphic novel has a certain promise. As Zwierzchowski puts it: “We needed to get Yennefer right.” A simple sentence, but one with enormous weight. Yennefer, more than any other character in the Witcher universe, sparks debate. Is she cruel or just complicated? Dangerous or misunderstood? Manipulative or hurt?
Every version of her reflects a different creative lens, which is why some fans adore her Netflix portrayal while others prefer the cold perfection of her game counterpart. Fajardo’s first designs reportedly capture that duality. The beauty and the threat, the weakness and the power, all of it. Should this adaptation manage to strike a balance between these elements, it can become the ultimate visual adaptation of her origin.
