Why Jenna Ortega Donned A Black Veil At Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ Premiere

Jenna Ortega walked the red carpet for Netflix’s Wednesday‘ premiere held on Wednesday, donning a black veil. The premiere had taken up the goth aesthetic as everyone wore black. Jenna, wearing a laced black dress paired with black heels, triumphed over the crowd by adding a black veil. Jenna certainly understood the assignment in taking up the role of Wednesday Addams of the macabre Addams family.

Despite the repeated production of the Addams Family franchise, much is anticipated from the Netflix release. ‘Wednesday‘ unlike prior production focuses on Gomez and Morticia Addams’ daughter, Wednesday Addams. The Addams Family has become a platform for directors and actors to experiment with and try different approaches similar to classic plays of Shakespeare. And, Jenna seems to be the perfect fit for this affair.

Jenna Ortega Paid Tribute Ro Wednesday Addams With A Black Veil

Jenna brought the dread of the Addams family with her as she flawlessly carried a black veil to her premiere. She also cherished the fact that all guests respected the black dress code for the evening. Ortega told Entertainment Tonight, “I appreciate everyone wearing the black.” Jenna revealed that “it just felt appropriate” to wear the veil at the premiere. She further explained, “I felt like if I was gonna wear black like everyone else, I probably should make a deal out of it,” and she was not wrong.

Jenna shared that the veil was a tribute to the frightening personality of her character. She explained how taxing the role of Wednesday had been to perform. Before the production even started, Jenna had to take up a cello and fencing lesson which continued throughout the shooting. “I would have lessons a couple times a week, so I would do the 12-14 hour work day and then I would have cello and fencing at the end of my day.” she related. But overall the actress feels satisfied with her performance and feels she has done justice to the role. She added, “I feel pretty good, yeah.”

Wednesday’: Plot And Release Date

As mentioned above, ‘Wednesday‘ will focus on the junior Addams and her dark educational life at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday who is not surprisingly allergic to colors put herself into the detective’s shoes as she tries to prevent a killing spree in her town. Like any other student, Wednesday juggles controlling her developing psychic powers, school drama, and unraveling the mystery that befell her family two decades ago. Netflix announced that the series will be released in 8 episodes altogether.

Jenna Ortega who plays Wednesday Addams in the series told Entertainment Tonight, that she “most definitely” felt the pressure to re-create a character that has been “so flawlessly done in the past”.

Christina Ricci who formerly played Wednesday Addams in the 1991 ‘Addams Famil’y returns for a cameo in the new sequel as Marilyn Thornhill. The cast highly praises their co-worker Catherine Jones portraying Morticia Addams. “I was a bit starstruck… It’s like a master class acting with Catherine,” says Gwendoline Christie who plays Nevermore Academy’s headmistress, Larrisa Weems. Luis Guzman too chimed in her admiration, “She gave Morticia the life Morticia has.”

Fred Armason has also been applauded for bringing the correct color of unhinged streak to his character, Gordon Craven. “He’s a delightful little freak,” comments Jenna. Gwendoline crowns Fred as a “Living nightmare”. Therefore we can expect Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday‘ to be as grotesque as the previous movies. You can stream the series on Netflix from 23 November.
