Karl Lagerfeld left an incredible fashion legacy behind him, but it cannot conceal the fact that he was a controversial personality. In May 2023, he will be honored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art by displaying his work across several fashion houses. The theme for this year’s Met Gala is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.’
While he headed some of the world’s leading fashion houses, including Chanel and Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld had an unfiltered personality, which, despite his shrillness, never became a hindrance to the phenomenal body of work that he has done. At unhealthy intervals, Lagerfeld has taken a shot at many people, like the singer Adele, by commenting on her body. But he has also criticized Pippa Middleton, the sister of the Princess of Wales.

Karl Lagerfeld Said That He Did Not Like Pippa Middleton’s Face
April 29, 2011, was a very special day for Prince William and Kate Middleton as they shared vows at Westminster Abbey, following the long royal family tradition. During her special day, Kate wore an Alexander McQueen gown, which was designed by Sarah Burton and had embroidery done by Chloe Savage. The same designer and embroiderer made the dress for the bridesmaid, Pippa Middleton.
However, Pippa Middleton’s wedding dress caused a stir and attracted a lot of attention. Pippa’s dress was made of delicate lace and ivory satin crepe. It was a floor-length, figure-hugging gown. It hugged her body so much that her posterior did not have any space to breathe.
The dress also featured a cowl neckline, a cinched waist, and capped sleeves. But the dress caused a stir for two reasons. First, it was a completely sheer white dress, the color reserved for only the bride. And two, it was very well fitted near the bottom.
When Karl Lagerfeld was asked to comment about the faux pas, he shaded the Middleton sister for her face while he admired Kate Middleton. He said, “Kate Middleton has a nice silhouette and she is the right girl for that boy. I like that kind of woman, I like romantic beauties. On the other hand, her sister struggles. I don’t like the sister’s face. She should only show her back.”

The Designer’s Comment Devastated The Sister
Karl Lagerfeld, without mincing words, always spoke his mind. With Pippa Middleton, he did not do anything different. However, Pippa was hugely “devastated” due to the former Chanel’s creative director’s comments.
As per a source in Closer magazine, “Pippa’s devastated by Karl’s cruel comments – she’s always been confident about her looks. But she doesn’t want to retaliate and start a war of words. Her friends have tried to make her laugh about it as Karl is hardly a supermodel himself.”
Chloe Savage, who was one of the designers of Kate Middleton and Pippa Middleton’s dresses, revealed what she wants to change about Pippa’s dress. Chloe said that she should have “given it a little room on the butt. It’s not her fault, nobody’s mistake. I would have just given it a bit more room so it wasn’t clingy.”
She added, “The bridesmaid should really not be stealing the show. It was a beautiful dress, absolutely stunning. But as a dress designer, the aim is to make the bride the star of the show.”
