Author JK Rowling has recently shared her support for HBO’s upcoming ‘Harry Potter‘ TV series, saying it is “going to be incredible,” shortly after the first trailer was released online.
The trailer for the seven-season reboot, which brings her original books to life, dropped on March 25. It introduces new actors as Harry, Ron, and Hermione and offers a first look at a carefully recreated Hogwarts, along with moments from the early part of the story.
What JK Rowling Said About the Harry Potter Reboot

Rowling, who has been closely involved in the project’s development as a consultant, quickly responded to fans on X after the footage began circulating.

“It’s going to be incredible. I’m so happy with it,” she wrote, sharing in the excitement of Potterheads who have been waiting for years to see the story told properly on television.
JK Rowling Celebrates Olympics Ban on Transgender Women

Rowling’s comments came shortly after she celebrated a major policy victory for women’s sports. The International Olympic Committee had announced a new rule, which she described as a step toward fair competition.

“Today’s ruling by the IOC means a welcome return to fair sport for women and girls,” Rowling hailed. “But I’ll never forget the scandal of Paris 2024, when people who consider themselves supremely virtuous and progressive publicly cheered on men punching women.”
In the post, she referred to the controversy at the 2024 Paris Games involving boxer Imane Khelif, saying that it was something she would not forget and criticizing those who supported it.
JK Rowling’s Ongoing Rift With Original Harry Potter Cast Over Trans Rights

The twin successive announcements, one about the Olympics and the other about Harry Potter, once again showed Rowling’s willingness to speak openly on gender issues while still promoting her work. She has long argued that biological sex does not change and believes that removing sex-based categories can harm women and girls. Her views have also affected her relationships within the Harry Potter circle.
Since 2020, she has been in public disagreement with the lead actors from the original films, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. All three spoke out after she published an essay defending women’s single sex spaces, and raising concerns about the medical transition of minors. Radcliffe said, “Transgender women are women,” while Watson stated, “I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”
Rowling, though, later criticised them, saying they had supported a movement that, in her view, threatens women’s rights. The divide has continued over the years, and she has made it clear more recently that a reconciliation is unlikely.
What Fans Can Expect From HBO’s Harry Potter Series

Despite the ongoing tension, the new HBO series has kept its distance from its original cast drama. The focus has been firmly on staying true to the books, and the new cast, including newcomer Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, has already started to generate buzz from its energy.
Rowling’s support is being seen as a significant boost for what is planned as a long-term project. The series is expected to premiere this Christmas on HBO and will also be available to stream on Max.
