‘Captain Britain’ Disney+ Series Will Explore The X-Men Offshoot Superhero Group “Excalibur”

Brian Braddock better known as Captain Britain is a very popular Marvel character among comic book readers. He has superhuman strength and can also fly. Braddock didn’t make it to any live-action media, however, it won’t be long till fans see the UK’s Warrior.

Marvel Studios is reportedly working on ‘Captain Britain’ Disney+ series. In addition to Captain Britain, the series will also feature his superhero team, the Excalibur. It mainly has former X-Men members who operate in the United Kingdom.

Even though Captain Britain is not a mutant, however, he is very close to mutant storylines. His faction. Excalibur had multiple members over the time. The group mainly had mutants such as Rachel Summers, Night Crawler, and even Jean Grey.

Brian Braddock’s sister Betsy Braddock (alias Psylocke) who is also a mutant is also a part of Excalibur. Fans have seen Psylocke in 2005’s ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and 2016’s ‘X-Men: Age Of Apocalypse’. It will be the first time his brother will come in live-action media.

The members who will appear in the Disney+ series are currently unknown. However, fans can expect some mutants and characters who won’t be part of the core X-men. Kitty Pride, Nightcrawler, and Rachel Summers can join the group.

After Disney acquired the 20th Century Fox, it opened the gate for so many new storylines and characters to explore in the MCU. Thanks to this buyout, Marvel is planning out more and more mutant content. ‘Captain Britain’ Disney+ Series is just another name to this list.

Betsy Braddock Or Brian Braddock, Which Captain Britain Will Fans See?

Dr. Brian Braddock is the original Captain Britain who appeared in the comics for the first time in 1976. Her twin sister, Betsy Braddock fought alongside him as Psylocke in his team Excalibur and later on joined the X-Men.

However, in 2019’s comic book series, ‘House of X’ and ‘Powers of X’, Brian convinces his sister to take his position as Captain Britain and he adopts a new title, Captain Avalon. She later in the ‘Dawn Of X’ series leads Excalibur which has Gambit, Rogue, Jubilee, and Apocalypse.

Now, since there are 2 Captain Britain in the comics, fans are wondering which one will appear in the MCU. There has been a rumor going that former Superman actor, Henry Cavill will be playing Captain Britain which indicates Brian Braddock’s version.

However, recently, Marvel Studios has been using the female alter ego of the characters rather than the male one. For example, in 2021’s ‘Black Widow’, Task Master, who is originally a male character, was switched to a female one.

It also has been already announced that Julia Garner will be playing the role of a female Silver Surfer in the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ movie. So the possibility of Betsy Braddock taking on the mantle of Captain Britain cannot be left out.

Marvel Studio can take a similar route from comics where Brian Braddock will first appear as Captain Britain and later pass the torch to his sister Betsy.
