New details about ‘Agatha All Along’ are emerging and are seemingly adding even more flavor to the story. Picking up after the events of the original show, Agatha finds herself trapped in the suburbs, powerless and yearning to regain her former glory.
However, she must face a series of trials to become the feared sorcerer she once was. While this was enough to excite fans, the creator of the show Jac Schaffer revealed another twist that is sure to double the excitement.
Jac Schaeffer Calls Agatha Harkness A “Drag Queen”
In an interview with Zavvi, Jac Schaeffer revealed that the show would be featuring a lot of queer characters. While the inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ community has often been trolled due to its feelings forced, ‘Agatha All Along‘ might be different.

According to Jac, the show was the perfect opportunity to include queer characters. “There is an enormous overlap between the history and persecution of witches and that of the LGBTQ community, just as there’s a lot of intersection between the queer community and the horror genre, so it was a very natural fit for there to be queer representation in the show,” Jac stated.
Beyond the main plot, the show features a more prominent and unapologetic representation of LGBTQ+ characters. Moreover, the show’s main cast includes openly queer people, such as Agatha’s sidekick Rio Vidal, portrayed by Aubrey Plaza.
Rio was a warrior witch with whom Harkness had a previous relationship. In addition, Jac thinks of Agatha as a “drag queen”. “In fact, I think of Agatha as a drag queen; not only is she an icon, but she’s a performer above all else, and a code switcher depending on who she’s with,” he added. He also revealed that the show’s creators were intentional about featuring queer characters.
Jac Schaeffer About Struggling To Find A Balance For Agatha In ‘Agatha All Along’
Agatha Harkness has evolved from a villain to a lovable anti-hero. However, maintaining this balance was challenging for the show’s creators. Jac talked about finding it difficult to find the right balance for the character. “We talked a lot in the writer’s room about what the line is for Agatha,” he stated.

“We’d have discussions about darker sides to her, and we’d wonder whether it would go too far for the audience,” he added. The writing team struggled to find the line between Agatha’s duplicitous nature and her endearing qualities. Moreover, they explored the darker sides of her character, but ultimately focused on revealing her inner truth.
“The harder parts were figuring out what was behind that mask, getting to her inner truth rather than just asking “how bad is she really?” He claimed. Moreover, by understanding Agatha’s motivations and desires, the writers were able to create a compelling and engaging character. They focused on exploring her complexity rather than simply labeling her as good or evil.
