Marvel’s highly anticipated film of the summer Deadpool & Wolverine‘ has finally hit theaters, concluding Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie packed in several surprise cameos from past Marvel characters, but one death in particular seems to have really upset its star Emma Corrin, who portrayed Cassandra Nova.

Corrin takes on the role of the villainous Cassandra Nova in the film, pitting them against Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. However, in a recent round of interviews, the actor opened up about one particular on-screen kill that left them feeling absolutely terrible.

In an interview with GQ, Corrin opened up about their (Corrin goes by They/Them pronouns) reaction to killing off fan favorite Chris Evans’ Human Torch. “I felt so bad when we were in the screening the other day,” Corrin said. “Because we watched it after the New York premiere with all these Lincoln Center full of fans, and everyone was so excited when they see him appear on screen, and then after three minutes, I’ve killed him.”

According to Corrin, seeing the excited reaction from fans only to have their character take Evans out left them hiding in their seat and feeling terrible. Though Corrin had a very minor role in comparison to the two-hour-long movie, they did manage to bring life and menace to Charles Xavier’s’ evil twin with their prowess.

When speaking to GQ, Corrin praised how Marvel incorporated the memorable past cameos from Fox films into ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. “That’s something [Marvel] do so well, the cameos” they said. “You know, they give the people what they want. They give them cameos. But they also don’t use them gratuitously. They’re all there for a reason“.

Wesley Snipes’ Blade and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra also returned along with Channing Tatum’s Gambit. But Corrin reiterated that killing off Evans’ beloved Human Torch after his brief appearance upset them greatly.

Corrin said they didn’t actually get to film scenes alongside some of the bigger cameo stars. But they were thrilled to be working alongside MCU veterans like Evans on set. “I was on the same set as Chris, but I met Jennifer and Channing [Tatum] and Wesley [Snipes], but I don’t think we had a scene [together]” they said. When asked by GQ if their character could truly be dead, Corrin laughed and stated that in the unpredictable world of the MCU, “If this film proves anything it’s that you can literally bring back absolutely anyone“.
