The Marvel Cinematic Universe, as we all know, thrives on mystery, and it looks like ‘Thunderbolts*’ star Geraldine Viswanathan is playing her part in keeping secrets. The actress, who is allegedly set to appear in the upcoming anti-hero ensemble film, was recently asked about the identity of her character.
However, unsurprisingly she did not let a lot of information go. For now, all fans know is Geraldine will be playing ‘Mel’ in the upcoming film. Additionally, with ‘Thunderbolts*’ set to hit theaters in 2025, it could be one of Marvel’s most intriguing projects in years.
Geraldine Viswanathan Remains Mum On Playing Songbird In ‘Thunderbolts*’
In an interview with ScreenRant, Geraldine Viswanathan was questioned about whether her character, Mel, could be an MCU adaptation of Melissa Gold, a.k.a. Songbird, a longtime member of the ‘Thunderbolts’ in Marvel Comics. Her response? A nervous laugh and a classic Marvel-style dodge.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. Never in my life have I heard something like that,” Viswanathan joked before adding, “Oh, look what you’ve done. Now, I’m all nervous.” Now, if you’ve followed Marvel for any length of time, you know this is how they play the game.
Actors often deny, deflect, or feign ignorance when faced with major MCU character reveals. Previously, Andrew Garfield swore to fans that he wasn’t going to appear in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ only to appear in the film alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland.
Could Viswanathan’s character really be Songbird? The evidence is intriguing. Her character’s name, Mel, could easily be short for Melissa, Songbird’s real name in the comics. Plus, her reaction to the question was just suspicious enough to make fans wonder if she let something slip. So, if ‘Thunderbolts*’ is following the comics closely, adding Songbird would make perfect sense.
How ‘Thunderbolts*’ Could Set The Stage For The Dark Avengers
While the MCU’s Thunderbolts is shaping up to be a fascinating anti-hero ensemble, many fans are wondering what this film means for the bigger MCU picture. Could this team eventually pave the way for the Dark Avengers?

The MCU’s team already consists of morally complex characters. However, in the comics, the team has had several iterations, with some versions leaning more toward the villainous side. If the MCU follows this path, we could see the Thunderbolts gradually evolve into something even darker: the Dark Avengers.
For those unfamiliar, the Dark Avengers are a group of villains who take on the identities of well-known heroes, posing as Earth’s new protectors while secretly working toward their own sinister goals. If the MCU were to introduce even Sentry into the Thunderbolts mix, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine them shifting into full-fledged villains.
