How ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ Can Make Or Break The Future Of MCU?

After Disney acquired the 20th Century Fox, the whole mutant universe came back under Marvel’s wings. Fans were expecting a mutant movie soon after the acquisition, however, Kevin Feige clarified that they won’t be rushing things with the introduction of mutants in the MCU.

Now after 5 years, Marvel is finally bringing mutants to the franchise and they decided to do this with Merc With A Mouth, Deadpool. Marvel knows how big of an asset Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool is.

Fans loved him as Wade Wilson in 2016’s ‘Deadpool’ and 2019’s ‘Deadpool 2’. To make things more interesting, Marvel has paired him with Hugh Jackman who will be returning as Wolverine after 2017’s ‘Logan’.

‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ is the next big thing in the MCU Phase 5. Ryan Reynolds and Marvel announced this FKA ‘Deadpool 3’ movie in September 2022. The hype around this movie is on the next level.

However, This movie means more to Marvel Studios as they are suffering with multiple underwhelming projects making fans move from Marvel. Some people claim this to be because of “Superhero Fatigue“, however, it is also true that Marvel has not been at their game.

After finishing the Infinity Saga, fans are convinced that the magic of the MCU is feeding away. With multiple TV series and movies, they have surely increased the amount of content but quality took a massive hit.

With movies and TV Series with loose writing and lackluster action, the MCU is certainly at its lowest point. Their last movie, ‘The Marvel’ was the lowest-grossing movie of the MCU. In addition to underwhelming actions and storyline, fans are also blasting the MCU for going “woke” and soft.

‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ is coming as the new hope for the MCU for its revival. Marvel is expecting fans to get hooked once again on MCU like before. This is also the first R-rated movie of the franchise which can help Marvel to some extent.

Fans are very excited for this movie already. The trailer also did a great job of not revealing anything much about the story which has left fans intrigued. It has also led fans to the top of the “MCU is Back; MCU is Done” sinusoidal graph.

Despite being two of the most loved characters, creators can’t ignore the fact that movies including either Deadpool or Wolverine still haven’t entered the “$1 Billion” club. So, Marvel is playing “High Stakes” with ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’.

After ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Marvel started to move past OG 6 Avengers and enter a new era of superheroes. They introduced a new faction, Eternals, and multiple new characters such as Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, Kate Bishop, She-Hulk, Kamala Khan, etc.

Except for Kamala Khan and a small cameo of Kate Bishop in the post-credit scene of ‘The Marvels’, none of them have been seen again in any new projects. With ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ bringing back Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, some fans believe Marvel just wants to ride on the nostalgia factor instead of returning to the above-mentioned characters.

Marvel did the same with ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ bringing back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man along with all previous villains representing their roles.

There are already rumors that multiple actors will be reprising their roles in ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’. With people already upset with the MCU, a cash-grabbing fan-service movie will make a huge dent.

The movie has to make sure that these cameos and involvement seem earned and logical to the plot. Marvel has been taking a lot of liberty with the whole concept of Multiverse. So, if things go south, ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ will be another ‘Dr. Strange: Multiverse Of Madness’.
