“I’m Setting Myself On Fire”: Joseph Quinn Reveals How He Is Preparing To Play Johnny Storm In ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’

Joseph Quinn, the rising star who captivated audiences as Eddie Munson in ‘Stranger Things’, is set to take on another iconic role in the upcoming ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ film. 

Quinn is set to portray Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, a superhero with the power to control fire. However, when asked about his training regimen the actor had some jokes to crack. Here’s what he said.

In an interview with L’officiel, Joseph Quinn revealed that he has been practicing his “fire-controlling abilities” or at least a simulation of them as he prepares to star in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’. “I’m setting myself on fire quite a lot,” Quinn joked. “On my balcony, I just get a big tub of gasoline and just douse myself in that,” he said.

While Quinn’s statement was clearly meant to be humorous, his dedication and commitment were clear in his previous comments. Moreover, in another interview with EW, Quinn emphasized the importance of getting the film right. He highlighted the unique aspects that set it apart from other Marvel movies.

“I think that with the story of the Fantastic Four, it feels like we want to get this right,” he stated. Quinn also expressed his enthusiasm for the script, which he described as “brilliant.” The actor stressed that superhero films are ultimately about people and their stories. 

He believes that by focusing on the characters and their struggles, the film can truly resonate with audiences. Moreover, the Human Torch is a physically demanding character, and Quinn is clearly willing to go to great lengths to prepare for the challenge.

Joseph Quinn also expressed his admiration for Chris Evans‘ portrayal of the Human Torch in previous ‘Fantastic Four’ films. While Quinn recognizes the challenge of filling Evans’ shoes, he is excited to bring his own unique interpretation to the iconic character.

I remember really enjoying Chris Evans’s performance as Johnny in the previous films, and it felt like this would be a really exciting opportunity; I was absolutely signed up,” he said. He also clarified that he did not consciously try to emulate Chris Evans’ performance during his audition.

Instead, he focused on bringing his own interpretation to the character. However, he acknowledged the challenge of following in Evans’ footsteps claiming that “it was big boots to fill.” So, fans can look forward to seeing Quinn’s take on the iconic Human Torch.
