‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3‘ marked James Gunn‘s last project before moving on to DCU. The third installment of the series revealed that the entire film was set up to reveal Rocket Raccoon as the secret protagonist. Since volume one, the fans have been fixated on the character growth of Peter Quill, but volume three dropped a bomb on the fans when it revealed its secret protagonist.
As the award season has come up, fans hoped and wished for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘ to take home one of these prestigious awards. However, with ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ dominating the award ceremonies, Gunn’s Marvel directorial seems to have missed the mark leaving the fans heartbroken and disappointed.

‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 3’ Not Recognized By The Academy
While all the other MCU projects failed in the year 2023, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ broke the streak. It was stated that the film broke the record for using the most prosthetics on its characters in the history of Hollywood with more than 20,000 artists being hired in the production. Despite this fact being known to the masses, the James Gunn film did not even receive a nomination for the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category at the Oscars.
The fans felt bad when this news became public as the decision not to consider the film for that particular category was considered one of the biggest letdowns in the list of nominees. This is because the visual aspect of the characters in Gunn’s directorial was far more remarkable and graphic than the others on the list.

The Marvel Film’s Team Will Reunite For DC’s ‘Superman: Legacy’
Although ‘GOTG Vol 3’ was let down by the Oscars in the category of Best Makeup and Hairstyling, the Academy was forgiven when it was recognized in the Best Visual Effects category as James Gunn’s last MCU film.
However, Gunn made a surprising revelation on Instagram, sharing that “nearly all” of the Oscar-nominated ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ VFX crew would be returning for his upcoming project, DC’s ‘Superman: Legacy’. Gunn expressed his gratitude for the VFX team’s dedication, emphasizing how they played a crucial role in bringing the fantastical elements of his films to life. The director said, “Our VFX crew worked tirelessly from top to bottom to create photorealistic characters and outrageous worlds. But I’m so happy they have this honor as well.”
