Despite the initial reaction to the film, Isabela believes the movie was “camp”. “It’s really interesting, I feel like every actor that I know, that I admire, has that one movie that I’m like, ‘It’s so camp,'” Merced stated during an interview with the Happy Sad podcast. Moreover, her statement offers a refreshing contrast to the generally negative reception of ‘Madame Web’.

While the film underperformed at the box office and faced harsh criticism from critics, the actress seems to have a different outlook. Her love for campy movies has allowed her to appreciate the film on its own terms. Additionally, the actress talked about a lot of people working very hard in the film.

She claimed that she felt sad for those people as it was their chance at a big break. She talked about how she has had several other opportunities after the film. However, it wasn’t the same for everyone. Moreover, while critical success is often seen as the ultimate measure of a film’s worth, Merced’s perspective reminds us that personal enjoyment can be just as valuable.

Isabela Merced took on the role of Anya Corazón in ‘Madame Web’, a character poised to become one of the future Spider-Women. Additionally, the film introduced her as a young woman with potential superhero abilities.

It set the stage for her eventual transformation in the sequel or other Spider-Man universe films. Moreover, while the movie itself received mixed reviews, Merced’s portrayal of Anya was generally well-received. The film was criticized for its unnecessary moments.

In addition, the plot was deemed to be confusing and lacking in clarity by fans. Another major point of contention was the underwhelming portrayal of Madame Web herself. Dakota Johnson‘s performance couldn’t salvage a character that many felt was underutilized.

Additionally, the introduction of new characters felt rushed and underdeveloped. The film’s connection to the larger Spider-Man universe also came under scrutiny. While it attempted to lay the groundwork for future installments, many felt the film failed to deliver a satisfying standalone story.
