Showrunner Jac Schaeffer revealed that there were initial discussions about incorporating Hulkling into the series. “There were early conversations about Hulkling,” Schaeffer explained. “Eddie was originally called Teddy because we were looking at the artwork and thinking about that. That was a Marvel decision to not have him be Hulkling for the purposes of our show.”

Additionally, according to Marvel insider MTTSH, Marvel decided against using Hulking as they have other plans for the character. They want him to make his debut in another project. In the comics, Hulkling is the son of the Kree superhero Mar-Vell and the Skrull princess Anelle.
He possesses incredible shape-shifting abilities and superhuman strength. While the show hinted at Billy’s immense power, it refrained from explicitly connecting him to the Hulkling identity. Instead, Billy’s love interest was named Eddie reportedly after a person important to the show’s writers.

“Very, very, very early on there was a conversation, but logistically it wasn’t possible for us,” Schaeffer explained. “Logistically” in this context refers to broader Marvel Cinematic Universe plans. Additionally, while Mephisto didn’t make the final cut, his name was still dropped from the show, hinting at his existence within the MCU.
This strategic move kept fans intrigued and fueled speculation about his future appearances. Schaeffer also discussed the decision to omit a post-credits scene from the show, a common practice in the MCU. “I wrote a number of post-credit scenes, as I’ve done on every Marvel project I’ve ever worked on,” she said. “But ultimately, it was a Marvel decision not to have a tag on this show.“
