Vision‘s death in the Marvel Cinematic Universe had left many fans heartbroken. However, the production did bring justice to his character by reintroducing him at least twice after his death. Vision first met his demise at the hands of Thanos in 2018’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, but was later brought back in two forms 2021’s ‘WandaVision’.
First, he appeared as a spectral creation of Wanda Maximoff played by Elizabeth Olsen, and later returned as a reconstructed, ghostly white android with no memories of his past. The two versions of Vision fought each other in the ‘WandaVision‘ finale. As the narrative progressed, Wanda’s Vision restored the memories of the rebuilt Vision before he disappeared. Marvel is now set to bring back the ghost Vision as he discovers his new purpose in a new spin-off of the character. Here’s all you need to know about it.
All We Know About The New Spin-off Series Based On Vision
Marvel is all set to bring back Vision to life in a new avatar in an upcoming Disney spin-off show, helmed by ‘Star Trek: Picard‘ executive producer Terry Matalas. According to Variety, the untitled Disney+ series will feature Paul Bettany in the iconic role of Vision.
Set to debut in 2026, the show is currently in its nascent stages. Marvel reportedly decided to get Matalas on board after his success with Season 3 of ‘Star Trek: Picard‘ where he reunited the cast of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation‘, and helped the film gain critical acclaim. The project also earned him a WGA award nomination for the series finale.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige also joined Matalas on a two-hour episode of the ‘Star Trek‘ podcast ‘Inglorious Treksperts‘ when the two had candid conversations about the MCU, its productions and ideas.
Reports suggest that initially a Vision series was in the works with ‘WandaVision‘ creator Jac Schaeffer. However, his focus was shifted to another ‘WandaVision‘ spinoff, ‘Agatha All Along‘, which will star Kathryn Hahn. Schaeffer got busy with the production of this show, set to premiere in September. Consequently, Terry Malatas was chosen to be the head of the new Vision Spin-off.

The Vision Spin-Off Is A Part Of Marvel’s Newly Adopted A TV-Centric Approach
The new Vision series will mark Marvel’s first new live-action series in nearly two years, a sign of the shift in their approach to television production for Disney+. For the longest time, Marvel has operated with a features model, where head writers crafted predetermined shows, but directors and creative executives held most leadership roles.
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of streaming, television, and animation, told Variety that the company has adopted a more traditional TV approach since 2022. That provides for productions to extend development periods and hire writer-producers as showrunners. Marvel is also rebranding its live-action TV content as Marvel Television, while also scaling back its annual output to roughly two shows, down from as many as four.
Malatas himself has been part of quite a few projects that the production team has decided to adopt. Before ‘Picard‘, he created and showran the Syfy series ‘12 Monkeys‘ which ran for four seasons. He also served as executive producer and showrunner for Season 4 of CBS’s ‘MacGyver‘ reboot and was also a part of ‘Nightflyers‘, ‘Nikita‘, ‘Terra Nova‘, and ‘Star Trek: Enterprise‘.
