Marvel Studios may be preparing for a major reset after ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, but one upcoming series could address a problem that has frustrated longtime fans for years.
‘Zodiac’, currently targeted for a 2028 release, might finally give Marvel’s television universe a stronger connection to the franchise’s forgotten corners. And the show isn’t just about introducing another superhero team. It’s about bringing back the interconnected storytelling that made the MCU.
‘Zodiac’ Could Give Marvel’s Forgotten Characters A Second Chance

For years, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ operated in an awkward position. The show ran for seven seasons, developed its own loyal audience, and featured characters who deserved more recognition. Yet its relationship with the larger MCU became increasingly complicated as the movies moved in different directions.

Now, ‘Zodiac’ could offer Marvel an opportunity to change that. Marvel has officially announced ‘Zodiac’, although its plot and connections to existing MCU properties remain largely under wraps. However, its logo features a recognizable S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem. And Clark Gregg, who played Phil Coulson throughout ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, has also shared the logo on Instagram.
Neither detail confirms that Coulson or his former team will appear in the new series. Still, the possibility is enough to get longtime fans talking. Honestly, Marvel has plenty of unfinished business with its television characters.
‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ proved that a smaller-scale story could survive for years without constantly relying on Avengers cameos. Bringing that approach back could help ‘Zodiac’ stand apart from the studio’s recent Disney+ projects.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Has A Chance To Change Everything For Marvel TV

The timing makes this project even more interesting. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arriving in December 2026 and ‘Secret Wars’ following in 2027, the MCU is approaching a turning point that could reshape its characters, continuity, and future storytelling.

That creates an opportunity for ‘Zodiac’ to establish a different direction for Marvel Television once the dust settles. Instead of making every series feel like an extended advertisement for the next blockbuster, Marvel could build a world where its shows have their own identities while still contributing to a larger narrative.
Of course, we don’t yet know whether ‘Zodiac’ will feature Coulson, reconnect with ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, or simply borrow elements from its mythology. However, if Marvel wants its next era of television to feel meaningful, revisiting the characters and organizations it left behind would be a pretty good place to start.
