Nicolas Cage isn’t holding back about his disagreement with Amazon over artificial intelligence. The Oscar-winning actor has revealed that he refused to sign an AI waiver for ‘Spider-Noir’, potentially putting an end to his professional relationship with the studio.
However, Cage also had some exciting news for television fans, teasing his involvement in HBO’s acclaimed crime anthology ‘True Detective’.
Nicolas Cage Says He Is “Probably Not” Working With Amazon Again

Speaking at New York Comic Con on Saturday, Cage made his position on AI in Hollywood crystal clear. His comments arrive shortly after Amazon canceled ‘Spider-Noir’ after just one season, despite the series earning 11 Emmy nominations and attracting significant viewership.
Cage directly addressed Amazon’s reported request for an AI waiver during his NYCC panel, criticizing the company’s relationship with artificial intelligence. “Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI,” Cage said. He then made his own position clear: “I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it’s like, connect those dots!”
The actor explained that he refused to sign the waiver allowing AI to be used on ‘Spider-Noir’. Cage subsequently suggested that the disagreement could affect his future opportunities with Amazon, stating, “I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that’s okay.”
Nicolas Cage Teases His Next TV Project: ‘True Detective’

Despite the apparent tension with Amazon, Cage isn’t stepping away from television. In fact, he may already have his next major project lined up. During the same panel, Cage expressed enthusiasm for working with younger filmmakers, particularly those emerging from online platforms.

He also revealed that he hopes to continue exploring television after ‘Spider-Noir’ marked his first leading role in a TV series. Then came the surprise announcement: Cage teased his involvement in an upcoming season of HBO’s ‘True Detective’.
“My agent’s out there somewhere listening,” he joked. “That’s okay that I’m the first to announce that, right?” HBO had not immediately confirmed his participation at the time of the report, so the details remain unclear. Still, the prospect of Cage bringing his unpredictable screen presence to ‘True Detective’ is an exciting one.
