At the Toronto International Film Festival, Don Cheadle spoke about his latest film ‘Unstoppable‘ and couldn’t avoid the topic of his old co-star Robert Downey Jr.’s blockbuster return to the MCU.
During the interview, Don Cheadle was asked for his thoughts on Downey’s casting as the iconic Fantastic Four villain in upcoming Avengers films. Cheadle reacted with surprise to it, but also took the opportunity to playfully joke around about Marvel’s secrecy with Russo Brothers projects. Here’s everything he said.

Don Cheadle was as shocked about Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Dr. Doom as most of us. When asked about the same, he exclaimed, “I was like, ‘What the f*ck?’“. However, he also used the opportunity to poke fun at Marvel’s plans under Joe and Anthony Russo.
When asked about any involvement in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars‘ by Collider, Don Cheadle played it cool, claiming “I’m not sure what you’re talking about“. He followed this up by pretending to not know the Russo Brothers at all. “I’ve heard of a Russo Brother. There are two? I always thought it was one guy, bouncing around, changing costumes,” he joked.
Cheadle is no stranger to keeping Marvel’s secrets, but he seemingly let loose with some funny hits at the studio’s well-known secrecy.

The actor explained further that with projects constantly rewritten and schedules reshuffled, even Don Cheadle isn’t fully aware of updated plans. “They’re rewriting, they’re reworking, and so I honestly can’t even tease anything,” he said. Cheadle also poked fun at the ever-changing nature of MCU productions under Joe and Anthony Russo.

When asked for more details on the Russo Brothers project, Don Cheadle continued pretending he had no idea. “You’re giving me information!” he said, pointing out the hilarious irony that the interviewer possessed insider clues instead of himself as an actual longtime member of the MCU cast.
